Treatment: YOU'RE NEXT LO2

TREATMENT
YOU’RE NEXT

THE BRIEF -
We have been asked to make a film trailer in the style of warp films, we will not have a budget and have to get the resources and write it all ourselves.

TARGET AUDIENCE -
The target audience is 15+, this is because it will have disturbing themes.

SEGMENT SYNOPSIS AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE BRIEF

Main character 'Neil' is hosting a house party, he goes upstairs with a female acquaintance and as they are alone in the room the music cuts out and there is a knock on the window, the window is placed 3 stories up in the house. Curious Neil slowly opens the curtain to see a clown across the road under a single street lamp on the road. He blinks and the words 'You're next' is written on the road next to the clown, he calls the girl over and as she approaches the window the camera points back and everyone has vanished from beneath the light. He backs away from the window  and we start an ellipsis with a dream sequence showing the clown visiting Neil in his dreams, keep getting closer and closer making the pace of the trailer more and more rapid. The clown rings the doorbell in the dream, Neil wakes up and the doorbell is ringing again. The door is opened and the clown jumps at the camera and it goes to black with the title.

KEY MILESTONES

1. Planning - (Narrative, permissions, treatment,  location, risk assessment, role deciding, documentation.) = 27th October pre-production planning
2. Filming - (Party scene, horror scenes, dream scenes, arranging of cast/lighting.) 10TH November – 12th December: Filming
3. Editing - ( SFX etc) 19th December on wards: Editing
30th March – Final submission
Launch date 13th April

EQUIPMENT

We will be using a camera and tripod for the majority of our filming.
We will need custom lighting.

PROPS AND MODELS

Clown costume and a large mallet for the main villain
Water in alcoholic beverage glasses/cans
Blood/Wound makeup.

HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS.

When we are out filming we will be considering the following -

The emergency contact number for when we are out filming will be for the college (0114 260 3970)

The safety of the equipment will be taken in to consideration and in order to avoid overheating we will be turning them off periodically to ensure safety.

The cast will not be required to do anything dangerous, however first-aid will be easily accessible.

No equipment will be left out in the open, the environment for filming will be secure to avoid injury.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS.
The narrative of the trailer contains both psychological horror and jump scares and as a result it presents the categories of Violence and Threat and as a result will be rated by the BBFC as a 15.
It is important to follow the BBFC regulations as they are a way for all films to be judged fairly and universally so that the intended audience are aware of what will be included. The way that we have introduced threat into this trailer is through the use of suspense and music, there is no representation of sexual or sadistic threat in order to adhere to the guidelines.
When we have violence shown in the trailer it is quickly moved on and has no focus on any gore or blood.
The trailer would have to be on post-watershed, this is because there will be violence and also hints at sexual content and use of alcohol. It will be a 15+ rating for this film trailer. Reference - http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/broadcast-codes/broadcast-code/protecting-under-18s/
We will not be using any copyrighted music and instead we will be using free music from creative commons and Incompetech.
We will be getting permission for every actor and location used throughout the entire filming period, this falls unded the Data protection law of 1998.
